Colorado isn't one of the luckiest states for jackpots of gold DENVER (KDVR) — St. Paddy's Day is a mixed bag for Colorado, at least where the nation's two biggest pots of gold are concerned. You may feel lucky to live in Colorado's beautiful weather, near its mountains and trails, and around its amenities-packed cities. There are good reasons why three-quarters of a million people poured into the state over the last 20 years. Colorado doesn't make the nation's list of luckiest states for the lottery, however. According to gaming analysts Bonus.com, the Centennial State doesn't crack the most frequent winners of the Powerball or Mega Millions lotteries. Just how Irish is Colorado? Nobody from Colorado has ever won a Mega Millions jackpot. The state is luckier when it comes to Powerball jackpots with three winners through the lottery's history - still one of the lowest numbers among U.S. states. With addition of Negro Leagues greats, ‘MLB: The Show ‘23′ hopes to ‘educate, enlighten, and inspire.’ Here’s how the partnership happened. When the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum was founded in 1990, it was located in a one-room office in the historic Lincoln Building in Kansas City, Mo., across the street from where it operates today. The original office, located on the third floor, consisted of a conference room table and a few photographs on the wall. Early organizers, a group that included John “Buck” O’Neil, took turns paying the monthly rent to keep the office open while dreaming of one day being able to open a permanent home to honor the baseball heroes whose legacies they wanted to maintain.Bob Kendrick, the museum’s president and chief storyteller, started as a volunteer with the organization in 1993, but over the last 30 years the museum and its mission have become his passion. O’Neil, Kendrick’s mentor, oversaw the museum’s move to its 10,000–square-foot home in 1997, and Kendrick’s goal was to continue to share the stories and grow the institution when he...

Chauvin, who killed George Floyd, pleads guilty in tax case MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The former Minneapolis police officer convicted in the 2020 killing of George Floyd pleaded guilty Friday to two tax evasion counts, admitting that he didn’t file Minnesota income taxes for two years due to “financial concerns.” Derek Chauvin pleaded guilty specifically to two counts of aiding and abetting, failing to file tax returns to the state of Minnesota for the 2016 and 2017 tax years. Chauvin appeared in a Minnesota court via Zoom from a federal prison in Tucson, Arizona, where he is serving his sentences on a state murder conviction for killing Floyd and on a federal count of violating Floyd’s civil rights. He stood in a room and paced around before Friday’s hearing began. When Washington County Judge Sheridan Hawley asked why he didn’t file his Minnesota tax returns, he told the judge: “The true reason is some financial concerns at the time.”He also said: “I had to find significant funds from family to pay a previous year’s return...

Spanish company drops LNG terminal in New Brunswick citing high costs to ship gas FREDERICTON — The Spanish company behind a proposal to export liquefied natural gas to Europe through a terminal in Saint John, N.B., says it will not go ahead with the project because the costs are too high.New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs says he is disappointed by Repsol’s decision to drop the project but not completely surprised because he was aware of issues surrounding costs. The owner of the Saint John plant had meetings with the federal government in June on turning it into an export facility to help Europe wean itself off Russian oil and gas after the invasion of Ukraine.German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said last year his country was open to accepting more gas from Canada but also warned that the distance from the gas fields made for a poor business case.Higgs says Repsol made it clear that the economics of transporting the gas by pipeline from Western Canada before shipping it to Europe “were just completely out of the question.”Michael Blackier, spokesman ...

Markets slump Friday as investors grapple with banking fallout, rate uncertainty TORONTO — Financial markets have flip-flopped all week as a global crisis in confidence over the banking sector has led to a dramatic shift in expectations for central banks’ fight against inflation, and has made a recession more likely. The S&P/TSX Composite was down by less than one per cent at mid-afternoon on Friday, weighed down by weakness in energy, financial and industrial stocks. U.S. markets were similarly in the red to cap a messy week of trading. After the closures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank in the United States last weekend, fears over the financial system spread, sending bank stocks tanking Monday before markets recovered somewhat the next day.On Wednesday, the flames were further fanned by European lender Credit Suisse’s latest problems, and on Thursday and Friday another bank joined in on the widening crisis, with the biggest U.S. banks coming to the rescue of First Republic Bank in an effort to prevent it from joining the ranks of SVB and Sig...
