The Cardinal is competitive against unranked and FCS teams, with four games decided by an average of six points. Also still to come are No. 11 Oregon State and No. 14 Notre Dame.“Our guys know we play a tough schedule,” Stanford coach Troy Taylor said. “That’s what makes it so rewarding if you do play well and you win a game. But yeah, we’ll lick our wounds and we will be ready to compete and get back after it. We’re excited to have an opportunity to play against one of the top teams in the country.”Stanford lost 42-7 Saturday night against No. 23 UCLA (5-2), the closest it has come to a ranked opponent this season. Stock market today: Wall Street drifts as stocks continue to follow the bond market’s lead NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is drifting Monday, continuing a monthslong run where it’s slavishly followed the cue of the bond market. The S&P 500 was 0.2% lower in morning trading, coming off its worst week in a month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 90 points, or 0.3%, as of 10:33 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.1% lower.Rapidly rising yields in the bond market have been knocking stock prices lower since the summer, and Treasury yields were swinging. Early Monday morning, the yield on the 10-year Treasury briefly topped 5.02% to touch its highest level since 2007. That helped drive the S&P 500 to an early loss of 0.8%.But the 10-year yield then eased back to 4.92%, compared with 4.91% late Friday, which helped stocks to recover their early losses. The S&P 500 briefly flipped to a small gain when the 10-year yield fell back to 4.90%. As the centerpiece of the global financial system, Treasury yields help dictate how much investors pay for...

Hospitals say they are scrounging for generator fuel in order to keep operating life-saving medical equipment and incubators for premature babies. Heavy airstrikes demolished buildings across Gaza, including in areas where Palestinians have been told to seek refuge, killing hundreds and sending new waves of wounded into already packed hospitals, according to Palestinian officials and witnesses. After a strike in Gaza City, a woman with blood on her face wept as she clasped the hand of a dead relative. At least three bodies were sprawled on the street, one lying in a gray...
